Leaders are warning that Europe is once again plagued by a “hated of Jews.”

The European Parliament in Brussels held its annual commemoration remembering the 6 million Jews who perished during the Holocaust. This year on International Holocaust Remembrance day, the speakers noted with dismay that Europe “is experiencing a troubling rise in anti-Semitism.”

Moshe Kantor, the president of the European Jewish Congress, was the driving force behind the commemoration. Kantor stressed that the international community “make efforts to prevent continuing anti-Semitism and crimes against humanity.”

“The Holocaust was a crime committed by Europeans [and was committed] against Europeans,” Kantor said. “Europeans have a special responsibility to commemorate what their forefathers did and [allowed to] happen.”
